she's not even on MUBI's cast list
I love this film, but why in gods name would O'Toole's beautiful voice get dubbed.
i've been watching this on netflix instant and once getting past the obvious problems, like racially insensitive casting, animal slaughter and romanticizing native culture, it's quite a remarkable example of outsider cinema. you'll not see nothing like the mighty quinn!
It's Nicholas Ray so it was always going to be interesting. He was incapable of making a boring film! I need to see this again...
yeah, certainly not boring. also it's the film debut of peter o'toole tho for some reason they dubbed his voice :/
Here’s a movie that marked me a lot when I watched it on TV during my teen years. Maybe because of the fabulous landscapes, maybe because of Anthony Quinn’s powerful performance. Or was it rather because of Nicholas Ray’s point of view ? It was indeed pretty amazing to watch such violent and graphic scenes without having a bad man taking responsibility for them. Inuk was innocent and the White Man society implicitly guilty. A shock for a teen in the early 70’s. Highly recommended.
