El Mar Adentro is a touching look at man, full of human vivacity, seeking to end his life in the context of physical impairment. While the premise may in some sense be controversial, the movie itself is emotionally evocative and full of the sort of humanity that one cannot avoid feeling. The cinematography, the soundtrack, and the acting are full of lyrical poeticism. The movie benefits from the excellent work of Javier Barden who unrelentingly embodies Ramon (the protagonist) with such emotional depth that the character walks off the screen with you as you leave the theatre.
