Born in 1937, director and screenwriter Alexandru Tatos graduated the Theatre and Cinema Institute in Bucharest. He directed six episodes of the TV series August Ablaze before making his feature film debut with Red Apples in 1976 (Second prize at the 1977 International Film Festival in Lublin). Gently Was Anastasia Passing (awarded with Best Actress for Anda Onesa, Karlovy Vary Festival) and Sequences (acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York) are his most acclaimed films. He also had an inspiring career in theatre direction, starting with the staging of Pantalone’s Follies in 1971 (a personal script of Commedia dell’Arte). He passed away in 1990 soon after the release of his last film Who Is Right?
