This is just as good if not better than the original BBC miniseries. Both screenplays were written by Potter. The film is obviously more compact, but works perfectly for it's length. Gambon is an amazing actor (the best live theatre performance I ever saw was him in Harold Pinter's The Caretaker), but this is my favorite Robert Downy Jr. role. If you are American, you may relate more to the film version.
