It may even have been better because of it. The film seems to end abruptly, yet it doesn't feel unfinished.
A superb companion to his previous Spirit of the Beehive, with a somewhat bittersweet ending since I would have loved to watch the supposed continuation as much as I would like to leave the film as it is.
cuando la pantalla se convierte en una fogata y llena de calor el espacio en el que se encuentra...
didn't know this was only half the intended film but it doesn't seem to matter.

I saw this at an Erice retrospective in 1993 in NYC with Erice present. He did a fascinating Q & A after the Quince Tree Sun. I got to see it and El Sur on the big screen and both were mesmerizing.
The cinema of honest and wise reflection. This film is a poetic take on memory (opposed to a dramatic one) ... It's amazing how much we feel we know someone, when knowing little about their past ... yet as soon as we gain even a small amount of information, we suddenly feel we dont know them anymore. Sometimes knowing more can result in a feeling of knowing less.
another masterpiece from erice. his cinema is one of faith, in cinema, in fantasy and in childhood to escape the brutal interior nature of reality. through his exploration of the daughter exploring the past of her father, erice presents an allegory for spain confronting the past legacy of franco. the motif of the star also presents the idea of an isolated, intense individual. symbolically pure cinema.
