Histoire de Marie et Julien 2003
Jacques Rivette’s spooky romantic ghost story is a lengthy sojurn into the spirit world, taken leisurely, but with just enough bread crumbs left along the way to lead one on and sustain interest. Whether one can extract a deeper meaning, the void between image and reality. is a possibility. But the film is entertaining in its own quiet fashion. Originally conceived with Albert Finney and Lesley Caron in mind, Finney might have been too robust a presence, while Jerzy Radziwilowicz here, is too nondescript for my taste while Emmanuelle Béart in place of Caron seems a perfect choice.

…it will not happen, the sublime fusion, the point of life has been lost.
Could be.
