Synopsis

The world fell in love with Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova when their songwriting collaboration in the film Once culminated in a jubilant Oscar® win. But behind the scenes, where Glen and Mar’s on-screen romance became reality, a grueling two-year world tour threatens to fracture their fated bond. Gorgeously filmed in black and white, this music-filled documentary is an intimate look at the exhilaration and turmoil created by both love and fame. —Tribeca Film Festival

Be careful of realizing your dreams; for when they come true.....what's left. The film "Once" and its eventual Oscar win made Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova media darlings and took them from playing bars to concert halls. The pressure this creates on them as both a musical unit and as a romantic couple is captured very well here. Choice to shoot this doc in b&w was an inspired one and draws us into their intimacy.

Heartbreaking documentary takes an intimate look at the private lives of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, the crackerjack songwriting team behind the film ONCE, who won an Oscar for its gorgeous theme song, "Falling Slowly." What starts out as a behind the music doc turns into a haunting and melancholy look at the price of fame and the disillusion of a relationship. A powerful, disarmingly human documentary.
