You got me burnin! You got me burnin! You got me burnin in the thiiiiiiiirrrrd degreeeeeeee!
Liked it way more than I expected. Illustrates Cameron's abilities when it comes to the genres of action and genre. Loved that the comedic elements weren't exaggerated( jab @ G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra), yet just enough to ease the tension. Well-done acting by Biehn, Hamilton had her moment near the end though.
"The Terminator" has possibly the greatest delivery of exposition in any genre movie. Michael Biehn is spouting off about cyborgs and a future war but, first of all, you don't know if he's crazy or not; he's explaining all this while being hounded by the police AND the Terminator, and he's in the process of stealing a car; but Biehn's performance is so full of conviction, you're taken in by every word he says.
Seen it after almost 15 years, and I must say I'm a little disappointed. Not due to the story, but mostly the action sequences evolving around the Terminator. I was expecting more, and having revisited RoboCop recently I must say I prefer Murphy. I don't know, seemed more in touch with his feelings.
You got me burnin! You got me burnin! You got me burnin in the thiiiiiiiirrrrd degreeeeeeee!
I think I would've liked this a lot more if its horror aspects were more of a focus than its action sequences.
Regardless of whether the ideas were derived from the work of Harlan Ellison, The Terminator is no doubt the brainchild of James Cameron. One of its strengths is the myth and wonder it creates around its story, which captivates the imagination and makes you buy in to the sci-fi horror it is. Crucially, it didn't have the franchise it has now so no compromises were made and it still stands the test of time. Excellent.
Michael Biehn's greatest performance. As a kid, I remember being totally captivated by this scrawny guy from the future, and devastated when he didn't make it out alive at the end.
i love arnold in this and all the other films he's been in. again, dont make films like this anymore.
Still the best of the terminator movies and one of the pinnacles of action movies
The dated effects only make this film more poignant. The obvious animatronics and stop motion animation act as a check point and a sort of barometer for actual robotics technology. To know how far that technology has advanced in the relatively short time since this film's release makes the premise all the more horrific.
I've finally seen the first Terminator movie! It all looks so dated now. The relentlessness of the cyborg Terminator keeps the heroes on the run. The plot is one huge chase. The one night of love between Sarah Connor and Reese was corny. An ok set-up for the Terminator franchise, I guess, but not much meat on the endoskeleton bones.
Still a classic but that rare film whose sequel is actually superior to the original.
i just saw this again; love the transitions; cameron squeezed the most of out of the pacing, action, effects and dialogue to maximum effect. still holds up after all these years. And it's a genuine horror movie in the begiinning.
I wore this one out on VHS when I was a kid, along with Die Hard, Aliens, and Predator. Seminal part of my youth. I was in 4th grade in 1984.
