Beware: Contains some spoilers! My first Yang´s film. Was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe I was expecting too much. None of the characters were likeable ;) Acting was great thou. Liked the middle of the film very much. I had to watch the beginning of the film again to understand what was going on. Did not like the ending, one of the main characters "dreaming" killing his wife etc. Think I should watch this again...
Actually, the character of the doctor doesn't dream of killing his wife, but rather her lover (and twice). It's as if he couldn't hurt her, not even in a reverie, no matter how much he was hurt, and would shoot himself before using physical violence against her, which he did. But I did love the film much more after watching it again one day after the first time, which served more as a preparation for the second viewing.
That´s true what you wrote Cedric! I am now more convinced I should watch this one again... Like I wrote, this was my first Yang film and would like to see more films from him ;)
The lighting and cinematography is so beautiful. It is as if the spirit of Caravaggio possessed the filmmakers.
