Synopsis

Some years after having buried his beloved wife Ligea, Verden Fell meets and eventually marries the lovely Lady Rowena. Fell is something of a recluse, living in a small part of a now ruined Abbey with his manservant Kenrick as the only other occupant. He remains infatuated with his late wife and is convinced that she will return to him. While all goes well when first married, he returns to his odd behavior when they return to the Abbey from their honeymoon. The memories of Ligea continue to haunt him as well as her promise that she would never die. –IMDb

Roger Corman

Roger William Corman (born April 5, 1926), sometimes nicknamed “King of the Bs” for his output of B-movies (though he himself rejects this as inaccurate), is an Academy Award-winning American producer and director of low-budget movies, some of which have an established critical reputation: his cycle of films derived from the tales of Edgar Allan Poe for example. Corman is also a sometime actor, taking minor roles in such films as The Silence of the Lambs, The Godfather Part II, Apollo 13 and Philadelphia.

Corman has apprenticed many now-famous directors, stressing the importance of budgeting and resourcefulness; Corman once joked he could make a film about the fall of the Roman Empire with two extras and a sagebrush. One of the most expensive films he produced was Battle Beyond the Stars. —Wikipedia

Not only a thoroughly impressive and satisfying Poe adaptation but a superb and well-done movie. Vincent Price and Roger Corman are at their respective heights here and its a total shame Tomb of Ligeia doesn't get more credit. Incidentally, this movie doesn't make the best case for being a cat person.

This flick really worked for me, it's one of the best flicks Corman has made ever! It's true that Bava directed this genre better than Corman, but it's still pretty spooky :)
