I only watched this b/c I like the tv show, and I'm glad I did. OMG the train station sequence!!!!! I LOVE De Palma's camera work here, wowsers! Brilliant! Also, a few minutes into the film I turned the color off on my tv to make this the proper noir that it is. Great lighting! Great shots! My God, I'm inspired.
I saw it last night on TV for the first time in almost 10 years... of course i don't see the film with the same eyes, but still entertains.
I have no idea where all the hate is coming from. The Untouchables is both a loving tribute to classic gangster films and a roaring crowd pleaser. De Palma has taken a tight, economical script by David Mamet, squeezed great performances out his actors, and topped it all off with beautiful cinematography to create a film that is both exciting and emotional. The voyeuristic POV shot of Connery's killer is to die for.
Poor direction, bad script, terrible acting (Connery included), not to mention historically inaccurate in so many ways.
I feel like nobody understand what this movie is about. It is over-the-top action movie, because it's pastiche with the best made Potemkin Stairs parody. It's not historical reenactment.
Lousy score. Some over-the-top cheesy moments. But besides that pretty good. Great acting by De Niro.
While I enjoyed the film alot, it's not entirely accurate to what really happened during the events of Capone and Ness. But that doesn't mean it's horrible. It's still a good film.
if it were not for the dull presence of kevin costner, i would've appreciated this film better.
It's been a while since i've seen this film and i forgot how good it is. De Palma captures the period really well and the casting is inch perfect. Connery steals the show, Garcia and Martin Smith provide great support and De Niro is menacing as Al Capone. Costner holds the film really well but partly because of a bad script, there are several bad one-liners in here. But still, 9/10
Baby carriage scene = beautiful. Unfortunately the movie lacks a point, other than to look great.
I like that during some parts of the film I felt like I was watching a silent film.
Terrific connery piece. If your looking for terrific connery non bond films to watch The Untouchables, Highlander 1, Indy 3 are my pics.
One of the few DePalma films that doesn't make me want to kill something small. Great script by Mamet.
