When a beautiful white woman is found on an African beach after a shipwreck, a native tribe mistakes her for Mujaji, the adored goddess from their legends. For the tribe to live forever, Mujaji must preserve her purity. Yet the voluptuous woman unintentionally arouses animalistic desires from the natives as well as from a group of white explorers tracing rumors of her existence. This late Sarli work was filmed in English, and is controversial for its portrayal of African tribesmen as well as its star’s performance. Co-starring De Villiers, Armando Bo, Victor Bo, Ken Gampu, Jimmy Sabe. —Daniela Bajar and Livia Bloom, Film Society of Lincoln Center
