Synopsis

Sent to Switzerland with his tutor by his father because of his unstable nature, André Carel sees and falls for the beautiful Reine Lugrin, daughter of a poor boatman. He finds a job on her father’s boat, taking over from a previous employee, Cerdan, who likes to spy on Reine when she is bathing. André’s skills as a boatsman increase; one night he is attacked by Cerdan who throws him into the lake. At the same moment Reine has a nightmare and rushes to the scene, where she raises the alarm. André is found on the point of drowning, forgives Cerdan and marries Reine, giving away the money he received from his father to the impoverished locals. —BFI
