One of the classiest, sexiest and most intelligent variations of the noir tradition I've seen in my life. Resnais is above all a poet and thinker.

The film is filled with interesting editing, small cutaways that are so distinctive and bring to mind the French New Wave... The beginning is confusing, especially because there is a lot of dialogue. But once the initial confusion is gone, there are beautiful shots and interesting angles. Thulin and Bujold give amazing performances and the film's best scenes are with them.

I found it very intimate, the shots. It had to be Resnais or else this picture would have been like many other political structured films of its time. It is just completely on the verge of boredom with this type of material to work with, but because this picutre was made from Resnais it's not, you're not put off from watching this picture because of the way it was filmed. I found it to be well made and a good picture
