I can’t believe no one’s commented on this yet! With all the weird things that pop up, you’d think there’d be more traffic.

Anyways, let me start off by saying that this film was designed for the art-house crowd and not the casual viewer. If you like unconventional, slow-moving films with unusual camera work and very dense symbolism, then this is the film for you. On the other hand, if you are easily offended or get uncomfortable during sexually explicit scenes, try to avoid it at all costs.

This movie’s basically about two neighbors who live in an apartment building in Taiwan during an extremely hot summer and water shortage. The woman eats watermelon all day and the guy makes hardcore porn films. Throughout the film we see them flirt with each other and gradually start caring for one another. Throw in some very entertaining musical numbers and LOTS of sex and there’s the film in a nutshell.

If you take THE WAYWARD CLOUD literally, then it would probably be the biggest P.O.S ever made. However, once you start getting into the symbolism and metaphors of the film, it becomes a modern masterpiece.

Besides being an allegory of alienation and a critique on the porn industry, the film’s got alot more going for it. There are some very funny and memorable moments, some of which include a lost key, 2 glasses of watermelon juice, and a bunch of runaway crabs. In addition, several musical numbers are incorporated into the film that are very comical and the songs, very catchy.

There’s also some very disturbing scenes, particularly the one at the end. I’m not going to lie, its one of the craziest, most disgusting things I’ve seen on film, even though its meant to be heavily symbolic. I really wish I could’ve watched this film with an audience…would have been very interesting.

Overall, THE WAYWARD CLOUD has been an unforgettable experience for me and I will always be reminded of it every time I take a bite out of a big, juicy watermelon.
