You're not human.
I can't remember the last time I watched this. It's been years because this was primarily a childhood watch for me. After watching it now, it's still entertaining and exciting, but I realize my heart doesn't sore that high with its sentimentality as much as it did. I don't have be apart of the phenomenal fascination people have with it, but it's worth it once in a long time.
I'd put off watching this my entire life. After finally seeing it I feel ashamed for the delay.
Fleming's film is one of the most enchanting fantasy movies out there – a definite, timeless classic. You feel like you are a part of Dorothy's adventurous voyage through a world far from home. The characters are adorable, the colours fresh and beautiful, one witty, catchy tune follows the other and the choreographies are lots of fun. There’s no place like home. Still, it’s fun to make a trip to Oz from time to time.
It gets 100% on Casting, Performances, Script, Direction, Score, Costumes, Cinematography, Art Direction, and Special Effects. It's longevity and cultural influence are undeniable. It is likely the greatest achievement of the entire studio era, if not the greatest American film of all time.
my favorite extract from the script: "… anybody can have a brain. that's a very mediocre commodity. every pusillanimous creature that crawls on the earth or slinks through slimy seas has a brain! … we have universities, seats of great learning where men go to become great thinkers. and when they come out, and [they come] with no more brains … but! they have one thing … a diploma! "
This film accomplished the difficult task that many of today's films fail to do: it created a separation between visual beauty and classic storytelling. The glorious fantasy Land of Oz was the canvas; the wonderful story of adventure was the art.
at least this movie made me laugh. :) it teaches us to always remember our family and help each other no matter weakness that we have, either, heart, courage, or brain. and i really love Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow. it's good, but it's not included in my idea of 'great' movie. :P
http://tinyurl.com/mjr9ux I sooooo wish they'd do this with "Gone With The Wind". DEFINITELY something for all movie lovers to check out!!!
The timeless classic of Judy Garland and Victor Fleming, defiantly a film every person on earth should see.
i saw this movie when i have like 3 years old and i loved it.. i saw it again and again and i love it every time =)
I've read all the books, and even though it takes liberties with a few things, I still love it. In this most well-known adaptation, the special effects for the time, the technicolor, the quotable lines, and the simple values of brain, heart, courage, and home are what make it great. It'll always be my favorite!
