Synopsis

Ex-skinheads Woody and Lol are about to get married, but Woody chickens out at the ceremony. This triggers an emotional downward spiral for Lol, which is intensified when her once molesting father re-enters her family home. Disillusioned she initiates an affair with Woody’s best friend Milky, but this only leads to despair and alienation. Meanwhile, the other members of the old skinhead gang are trying to cope with problems of their own, growing up at the bottom of the social ladder. Eventually, Lol’s abusive home situation brutally strikes down upon one of her friends, with a traumatic aftermath. When things look the darkest, the old skinhead brute Combo enters the scene.

Shane Meadows, along with the entire central cast, returns with a massive four episode TV-series follow up to his highly acclaimed film This is England. The characters have grown up, and the focus is now on the very issues that once made them become skinheads – poverty, friendship, sexual abuse, love and violence. The cinematic style effortlessly floats between situation comedy and sadistic horror, without losing an inch of realism. Some scenes even exceed the original film in terms of vividness. –Stockholm International Film Festival

Shane Meadows

A rising star of British cinema, Shane Meadows is an English film director, screenwriter and occasional actor from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, England.

Meadows dropped out of school before he reached his GCSEs because he was more interested in stealing with his friends than getting an education. He started off in Uttoxeter making short films with his friends and family, but without any film festivals in the area, they remained largely unseen. However, after one short was given a run in the local cinema, it soon became popular throughout the town.

Meadows enrolled on a Performing Arts course at Burton College, where he first met friend and future collaborator Paddy Considine. Amongst other things, they formed the band She Talks To Angels (inspired by a Black Crowes song of the same name), with Meadows as vocalist and Considine as drummer. Lead guitarist in She Talks To Angels was Nick Hemming, who was also a member of The Telescopes and now fronts The Leisure Society. read more

it's great, because this shows england like any other country. with problems and simple, fucked up people. not the england most know, with fags in skinny jeans, drinking tea and saying "bloody 'ell" or "mum" all day. if you liked misfits, skins, sherlock, dr who and have a tumblr full of englishmen appreciation, then this is england will twist your little fragile mind.
