I love Blanc – it’s the underrated gem in the Trilogy, easy to dismiss when compared to Bleu’s artistic intimacy or Rouge’s majestic characters. But doing a tragicomedy about revenge does not mean Kieslowski has disengaged from his concerns. In fact, Karol’s humour (Zamachowski in a brilliant performance) makes the reflection even more powerful – there is an untold violence in Karol’s handicaps – in power as in love – but is that struggle to final equilibrium really liberating him?

Also, this is my favourite music score in all Three Colours.
