A technically brilliant and emotionally potent film whose slow-building, eerie tension is maddeningly effective.

Very interesting dystopian flim, I didn't think it was an excellent flim so much as just full of interesting ideas.

Wow, that motorcycle stunt at the end was insane, I wonder what the extent of the stuntmans injuries were.

Great film. It's a shame Lucas had to revisit it. Oh, he didn't totally fuck it up but he certainly didn't improve it.

Having seen this now (on 2011) i simply couldn't believe my eyes that this movie was made back in 1971. Just look at the concept (which definitely a straight inspiration for Michael Bay's The Island). And The FX. Truly original. And timeless. Yes. Timeless. Individual could even watch this in year 2354 and it still does not seems old.

It should've been much better. The beginning was so promising. :(

The 1984/Brave New World aspect of THX 1138 wasn't that impressive, but what blew me away about this movie was how George Lucas melded his audience with the protagonist and left them as disoriented and discombobulated as he was for the first hour. Once you're out of the mundane and dreary prison the chase and the freedom are so worth it. The multiple sleep-interrupted viewings were worth the ending.

A visionary sight for 1971 indeed but stopped short of amazement.

The story lacks a bit and in the middle it looses it's red line and becomes a bit boring. It's a classical "1984/brave new world in the future" story, where people are being dehumanized - so in that aspect it was really not inovative. But the visuals wo/man! The visuals are still great, couldn't belive it that it was shot in the 70s. There is also some great camera work , so all in all quite a good movie.

Agreed, the CGI was an unnecessary touch. Also, I loved Electronic Labyrinth: THX 1138 4EB.

Lucas’ asexual dystopia cloaked in white is more innovative than expected. (White is an understatement - more like serious high-watt bleaching) Plus, it all seems strangely familiar...a self-sedating, mechanized society whose identity lingers after death in remnants of electronic data...hmm... Let us trust in the impassive ECJ [Electro Confessional Jesus] ...that is to say...”Could I be any more...specific?”

it's really too bad he got away from doing these kinds of movies, because this is a pretty visionary film.

I could have done without the new effects, but they don't particularly bother me either. I definitely wish Lucas still had this style though
