Untitled

By Halim Cillov on February 1, 2008

This movie reminded me of the recent hit and comic-novel ’ V for Vandetta.’ It had that unique comic-book like aesthetic and dramatization of the characters. I also thought the subtle and sensual, and at times melancholic, relationship between The Vigilante and the young girl was as delicate and sophisticated as the one shared between Scarlett Johanson and Bill Murray in Sophia Coppola’s ‘Lost in Translation’ Furthermore, it was incredibly interesting to see how differently Tokyo was filmed and presented in these two films that share the same setting, yet a completely different world… What I thought was the most striking aspect of the film was the way the director deals with this unconventional love story with a great sensitivity. As a result, both of the characters turn out to be very real and very like able, event hough at times we don’t necessarily identify with their judgments…
