Synopsis

Set in a future-world vision of Tokyo where the police have been privatized and bitter self-mutilation is so casual that advertising is often specially geared to the “cutter” demographic, this is the story of samurai-sword-wielding Ruka and her mission to avenge her father’s assassination. Ruka is a cop from a squad who’s mission is to destroy homicidal mutant humans known as “engineers” possessing the ability to transform any injury to a weapon in and of itself. —IMDb

Yoshihiro Nishimura (西村喜廣 Nishimura Yoshihiro) is a Japanese film director, special effects and makeup effects artist, and a screenwriter who has worked predominantly in the horror genre. Nishimura has been described as “a legendary director and effects artist” and “the Tom Savini of Japan” with “talent to burn”.He has been credited with establishing a new type of visual film presentation, the “gore effect”.

Nishimura, born on April 1, 1967, had been interested in film from childhood but a major influence on his career was a painting by Salvador Dalí with distorted human bodies that he saw when in elementary school. He majored in law in college. Nishimura has said that he doesn’t watch much television or movies but reads horror magazines and gets much of his inspiration from his dreams. He started making films while in junior high school by teaching himself about filming, lighting, special effects and modeling.
