One would think that Michael Bay would be in the pocket with this movie, as it would require for him to do only what he is good at. Unfortunately Bay isn’t content with constructing effects-heavy action set-pieces, and while the special effects are there, we don’t get anything behind it. The problem with TRANSFORMERS is one that should be an easy fix. It’s a movie that is too damn long, and focuses on a moronic story involving moronic characters making moronic jokes…and barely any of it is in service to what we should care about: the damn robots. If TRANSFORMERS was a ninety-minute Michael Bay action flick, he could’ve done well with it. Unfortunately the man’s worst qualities come out here, as he is wont to indulge in everything, making the entire affair a bloated, gassy one. It’ll keep you awake in the theaters, but it’s impossible to sit through at home, it’s just too damn boring and by the end it’s too little, too late.
