shorter review may have been WTF??? or Korine is guilty of breaking his own rule here as he fakes it he doesn't make it
The cinematic equivalent of hands free masturbation lacking in virility and inspiration. Emotionally bankrupt, void of purpose or meaning and endless at even just 78 minutes. The diminishing mind/artistry of Korine continues with his lastest short as well. I was such a fan of ''Kids', 'Gummo' and 'Julien-Donkey Boy' that these new works just make me so sad and bitter of an artist lost to hedonism. Too much??
...and Korine laughed all the way to bank thinking of his cult eating crap off his hand. Gummo was superb, this was fittingly...trash.
I'd call this movie a pile of garbage, but then it'd seem like I'm just making a bad pun instead of talking about how horrible this is.
That was horror. Geriatric morbidity, pre-pubescent masturbatory expectation, depraved infantilism. Difficult; but industrial noise questions while the body evaluates social infrastructure. Media work and worked media appeared balanced and appropriate. Yes, very frightening horror.
Hope this is ok to post here... For anyone in London, there's a double VHS screening of Gummo and Trash Humpers on Sunday Nov 6th at 6pm at The Shacklewell Arms in Dalston, east London. More info here - http://www.shacklewellarms.com/listings/eventdetails/6-nov-11-harmony-korine-double-bill-the-shacklewell-arms/ and www.stilladvance.wordpress.com... Should be interesting!
I have to be honest, when someone tells me they like this movie, I don't believe them.
Sick, perverted, depraved, insane, off-puting, violent, random. And yet L-O-V-E-D every frame, every shot, every camera movement. The colours (those Greens on the foliage of the trees my oh my) were awesome, loved the grainy feel to it, the sound the "songs", the masks, the laughter of that fat kid. The tv smashing, the trash humping was like boner pills for me, greatly experimental and so different. Adored it. Go HK
i'm all in favor of grotesque and disturbing imagery being artistic... but this film seems have no other purpose than being disgusting. no narrative, no plot, and no character introduction... this is an utter mess. while maybe more of a film shown in art museums (regarding its genre)... still there is no complexity to it - any one could have made it, and i can't imagine the amount of drugs it took to actually do so.
Terrible. Harmony Korine is telling me nothing. Shame for people who dedicate all his/her life for cinema and never got any tiny opportunity when we see Harmony Korine's all films.
This flick was pretty disappointing. Too tedious to trudge through in one sitting, which bummed me out because I was really excited for this flick.
Don't care that the VHS hipster explosion and this coincide at the same time but the first 20 minutes are really good but then Korine ruins it by using too many uninteresting long takes/sequences. Too bad.
It's definitely not judging people who go to work, watch tv, have kids, buy a house, big cars, doing what you're supposed to, etc etc, but it sure is questioning them. My kind of movie.
the ästhetik in this movie is beautiful, the light, the lamps, the locations and the perpetual freeway noise in the background – very poetic in its own way. so for me it was worth watching. the rest is forgettable, pseudoprovocative, superficial and/or annoying. or maybe superficial is the new improved artsy black? at least it is a movie that will stuck with me and thats more than i can say about many others
The camera is a living thing in Trash Humpers. Korine uses the camera intuitively achieving a naturalism associated with the genre of cinéma vérité through the artificiality that is created through the lenses of the dated equipment. Banal fields of green become transformed into magnificent expressionist art pieces and silly-looking geriatric masks are morphed into the faces of ominous, disturbing figures. No script.
I'm pretty sure I, or anyone here, can make a more meningful, entertaining, or just as disturbing film. Its not that hard. If the whole point is for it to be about nothing, and have no meaning, then hell, i might as well just sit staring at a wall.
Truly not for everyone and Korine's antics are less than appealing but he manages to create something that's watchable in the worst of best ways. Scary, funny, dark, and hypnotizing.
It's a nice detox after bombarded all month with back-2-back 2011 Oscar nominated films.
I imagined I would hate this. I had jokes all prepared. Good ones. But I was hyptnotized. It is absolutely what it sounds like wierdos on a handy cam humping trash cans, giving trees blowjobs, and peeping into your bedroom as you sleep at night. Like youtube, Gummo, Jack-Ass, back-yard wrestling tapes I used to make, fucked up college shorts you used to make, all wound up in the same garbage can, and got humped. USA!
