Forty years after the relocation and destruction of Sophiatown, the former glory of white Afrikaans suburbs have become a home of fear, pain, loneliness and stray dogs. It is a place where people are living on the memory of what once was, and the resentment and regret of what they have become. It is a place called Triomf. My film, Triomfeer is a story about hope in situations where there isn’t any, love in people who don’t have any, faith in something that don’t see any, and the triumph of the human spirit in a world that needs all the change that it can get. It is a story about people in situations that seem hopeless to them, and the people who change it in the strangest of ways. It is a story about the life we can all choose to live: a life in triumph. –Jan-Hendrik Beetge
