Director Ghobadi explained in the Q&A after the screening how the image of these three children for him symbolized the different dimensions of time in the camp: the troubled past, the blind present and the prophetic future. www.brnrd.net/blog/archive/2005/01/31/iffr-turtles-can-fly
A macabre third world fairy tale. Hansel and Gretel follow a trail of land mines all the way into unhappily ever after.
It left so much pain in my heart that I just can't see it again. But it was great. Definitely gives you a different perspective. I recommend it.
Bien. Mais je précise, pour ceux qui voudrait passer une bonne nuit, qu'on y voit des enfants manchots s'essuyer les larmes avec leurs moignons, entre autre.
I give this film 4 1/2 stars not 4 stars. It shows you the perspective of iranian orphans a few days before the US invaded. It's a very depressing film that really impacted me. Highly Recommended.
A great unique film, which deserves 5 stars. Of course, it made my tears fall too, and sometimes it's the only thing I don't like. Lovely movie.
Like the only other Ghobadi film I've seen (Half Moon) this one has a similar arc that is very unique to his style. It starts off w/ a kind of light tone, then halfway in, the moood turns in this almost supernatural creepy and sad way. I think I liked Half Moon more, although this one had less flaws. The only flaw is that the main character (Satellite) can't really act.
so realistic that a lot of people probably won't see the true drama, because there is no sentimentality, no fake pumped up scenes... Great movie, even a little humoristic. Still can't believe how amazingly the children act.
