It is amazing that Legend of the Overfiend was released in american theaters as an NC-17 rated anime around the same time as Ghost in The Shell and Akira. Even more interesting is that because anime wasn't distinguished, Overfiend would have been just as influential, if not for being the granddaddy of tentacle porn.

holy fuck, where do i even start? what a horrible dub, what a horrible story, what a surprisingly conservative premise, and who is this for, besides nights where you want to laugh with friends over surprisingly cheesy, disturbing shit? penises everywhere and i hope you like gore!

I was wondering how long it would take for this to be added to the MUBI database; such an infamous and well-known anime, probably the reason someone didn't add it until now was to try and pretend it didn't exist. I was even considering submitting it just because its absence bugged me all this time.
