Variations on a Subject of Masks

The documentary explores the personal and communal impact of one the oldest cultural traditions – masks. The characters in the film convey very different stories, yet all are related through a single element, the mask. Sometimes the connection is through the most literal means such as mask carving, painting, or collecting. And at other times more subtle and psychological such as adapting to a certain role in society. This film sparks the curiosity and awareness of how a long-standing custom continues to affect, and even guide, the way many people live today. —Vilnius Documentary Film Festival
