Cronenberg's savage, funny, and wickedly grotesque think piece about technology and it's hold on the human being, from mass hallucination to violence to wish fulfillment sado-masochism. Replace the video tape with the smart phone and it's still prescient.

I really enjoyed and loved the creepy concept this film gives out about television and how it can control people's minds, but when the film got onto the final act, the whole tone and feel of the film changed from a provocative, intelligent horror film, to a gory (almost mindless) horror film. Either way, though, in the end, it was definitely a great film experience.

What a mind fuck of a movie, Cronenberg's story and direction impeccable. I Can't really get my head around about what the heck really happened, it probably requires more than a few viewings but I'm just gonna say that I loved this film. Death To Videodrome, Long Live The New Flesh!

The fact that the message of this film still resonates today goes to show the brilliance in Cronenberg's creative insight, besides he doesn't seem lose control of the story - no matter how illogical it may seem at first glance - since the point he wants to make is stated quite clear, while leaving room to make our own conclusions as well.

This movie should be required viewing in all high schools. It teaches the dangers of sex, violence, commercialism, hedonism, and over-reliance on technology. Cronenberg's sense of venereal horror is truly terrifying, and some of the scenes are downright disturbing. But his sense of the poetic is always welcome, and the moral that we are loosing our freedom and our flesh to technology is a timely and relevant warning.

I know this is supposed to be one of those movies that only "unenlightened squares" won't enjoy, but I didn't think much of this little film. The only reason I watched it through it's entirety was James Woods brilliant performance. Where it succeeds in telling us something quite profound about the future of mass media and consumerism, it fails in actually being very entertaining.

Pretty great visual effects and the themes/characters are vivid but the direction flops half way through and once you start using echoing dialogue to remind the viewer of whats happening, your movie is fucked.

Something of a cyberpunk Cassandra; enduringly relevant, and the effects never fail to disturb. A hypnotic and queasy media nightmare.

Intriguing, an odd concept to wrap your head around, and kind of eerie. It will probably be on my mind for days.

At times it can be unpleasant, but it truly brings about a vision of the paranoia and occasional terror that the future imposes. Throw in wanderings in the violence of sexuality (a Cronenberg trait) and Videodrome thrusts you into it's world of social critique.

Videodrome is a fantastic meditation on violence, violation, exploitation, sexuality, mass consumerism, and the video age. Brilliant and thought provoking, a hallucination from beginning to end.
