Tender and rousing tale of a cold, stubborn and self-absorbed old man who is forced into some serious introspection following the sudden illness of his wife and primary carer. Similar to AMOUR in story, Volcano is set against the bleak Icelandic coast, shot in grainy 16mm and has a score by Kjartan Sveinsson of the Sigur Ros. Incredible effort for a feature debut. 4 stars
