Finally! A movie where Penelope Cruz isn’t annoying as shit! Volver is directed by Pedro Almodovar, a director whose other films I would like to see. Volver is Spanish for “the return,” or “to come back” and is about a mother who comes back from the grave to visit her two daughters in order to tie up some loose ends.

Volver is like a candy-coated piece of cake: it’s so bright and colorful that I just want to take a big bite out of it. The use of colors is nothing short of fantastic here, and helps to give the film some powerful imagery. The shots of the fields bespectacled with the giant wind turbines was candy for my eyes and looked beautiful. It was also hilarious, in a dark comedy kind of way. World cinema for the win!
