Was expecting more nail-biting, edge of your seatness. Why didn't she have the little girl call the police? Or leave her apt. and stay with a neighbor when she had the chance?
Yes, just wait until everything goes dark and you'll be gasping for air. A suspenseful and claustrophobic thriller with great performances from Hepburn and Arkin.
Still the only time I've screamed in surprise during a film. Granted I was 14, but still...
The gradual build up, the transformation of Audrey into a powerful contender despite her blindness and her astonishingly slender build, the claustrophobic setting, the connectedness of small plot details. Marvellous.
Magnificently shot (considering its a film adaptation of a play) and well acted, Wait Until Dark is a great and suspenseful watch. Also the end of an era as Audrey Hepburn took a several year hiatus from acting. Well worth the time...
Ive seen it done better but never as early. Alan Arkin is riveting. Terence Young's masterpiece.
Placing characters in closed settings isn't exactly a revolutionary technique, but it really works here. On top of the claustrophobic frenzy portrayed throughout the film, the main character is blind! Wait Until Dark is the most suspenseful film I've seen that wasn't directed by Alfred Hitchcock. 4/5
One of the most suspenseful films of my childhood and still is a powerfully intense thriller. It's shocking to see Arkin here as a bad guy, and not just bad; evil. He really nails the part and is a frightening presence in the film. Audrey as always couldn't be more wonderful if she tried.
