This is an excellent, underrated, nearly forgotten film - built solely on an encounter between two well-performed characters.
Weird movie, but in a good way. It would make a nice double-feature with Synecdoche, New York (which also includes Tom Noonan). This double-feature could be billed 'The Tom Noonan Depression Session'.
Best bad date movie ever? Its a lot more then that though. Amazing actiing and writing sweaten this depressing, cringe-every other min pill.
Hilariously uncomfortable and devastating all at once. Loved it! "Ever heard of the Grim Brothers?" Ahahaha
I find it interesting to compare this movie to True West by Sam Shepherd. Its interesting how a filmmaker can start with another work as a model and adhere to the model throughout yet still make something wholly original and even revelatory. Compare the "I can't make it out there" end speeches. Noonan was in the original cast of another Shepherd play so he was very familiar with his work.
One of the greatest films ever made. Overstatement? The last 1/4 of film reveals and articulates the reality of adult life in America for most of us: shocked by our own incompetence. The Wife is very good. But, whatever happened to Wang Dang?
