what have i done to deserve this? is a prove that pedro almodovar is better when he’s being more absurd and less serious than he is today.
let’s just take a look at the characters of this film. there’s a drug-addict housewife, a typography-master husband, a money-oriented mother with diabetes, a drug-dealer son who inherited his dad’s typography skill, another son who earned his money by selling his body, a neighbor who also sold her body to earn a living, and a mother who likes to hit her telekinetic daughter. not to mention that music video which starred pedro almodovar himself.
what have i done to deserve this? is almodovar at his best. the setting of the film might be old fashioned, but the color tone makes it ageless. it’s like seeing a new palme d’or-material film. the black satirical humors really cracked me up when i first saw this film; it talked about many things, from the spanish family culture to the whoring business. all of them are hilarious, almodovar style. botom line, this is one of the best pedro almodovar film i have ever seen. a timeless classic.
