Oh wow. This was the first film by Ling-Miang I have seen and I was immediately struck by the austere and structured photography. The camera never moves. Music is minimal minimal, if at all. Yet, within the rigid and picturesque frame are characters that are enigmatic, soulful, angst-ridden, withdrawn – dealing with death and loss and isolation.

The artful and careful flow from scene to scene and the attention to extreme contrasts at edit points is impressive and pleasing.
Juxtaposing dark and light.

Contrasts in depth – Y Axis to Z Axis.
Warm to cool tones.

And jarring sound juxtapositions (of which I will not demonstrate – but just imagine!)
Genius.
