Boris is perfect.
(Talking about all of the different camps they have for kids) “In America they have summer camps for everything. Rich kids, basketball camp, magic camp, tennis camp, movie director camp — they should have a concentration camp. Two weeks mandatory for all kids growing up so that they could finally understand what the human race is capable of.”

Larry David ramps up Allen to 10 for bitterness while Evan Rachel Wood ramps up Allen to 10 for ditzy youthness, and then the two fly a smooth edge right under the stereotype radar until Melody's parents show up and the South gets a good a-liberalizing. Ultimately it pays off when you observe how all the characters and scenarios come together, but this is the type of funny where you get the joke but don't laugh.-DiB
Woody Allen, New York check, grumpy ranty old man check, beautiful younger woman check, hey whatever works right? For this movie it does.
I laughed so many times during this movie. The script is amazing.
It's a pessimistic film structure that puts its characters, but optimistic when he realizes that there is an alternative. The certainty that all devises a way to make them happy and fulfilled. The luck here is what will determine the life and guide them to a happy end but at least appropriate, for example different from Match Point or Crimes and Misdemeanors, where luck is guilt and burden. cinemadebuteco.com
My first Woody Allen film I've ever seen. Jut finished it last night and I must say there are witty parts, but it was weird to say the least. The dialogue didn't work with every one and towards the end I was really going to shut it off because the characters just seemed silly and didn't have any depth to their actions . 2/5 My eyes are set to queue Midnight in Paris so who knows :)
while not better than older woody allen new york films, whatever works is a lot wittier and funnier than today's silly goofball comedies.
the dialogues are really engrossing.and larry david was like the reincarnation of woody allen in that role.(that was kinda awkward,i gotta admit.)
With the pairing of Woody Allen and Larry David,my expectations were high for this film.Started off well, then the characters became annoying, one of the worst things to befall a film. Things perked up with the arrival of Patricia Clarkson, but it was too late. And,quite frankly,it was a bit too unbelievable.
Didn't expect much given the reviews but ended up being happily surprised. Lots of great dialogue, though the plot was nothing new and a bit shallow. I thought Larry David was actually the film's biggest liability... he played the archetypal Woody Allen character but came across as too angry for the part. I enjoyed "Whatever Works" and, for all the flack Woody gets, even his most mediocre films are better than most.
Larry David is no Woody Allen. I'd give this movie 5 stars if it starred Allen and had a less predictable plot. Still, I liked it.
Far from perfect, this almost seeming like two different films merged together But very witty. Some great Allan dialogue, & great comedy timing from David. For all the films short comings this film made me laugh, & I enjoyed it. What more do you want?
Typical movie from Wood Allen with Larry David interpretating “himself” 6,5 for the movie
