a waste of a loveable premise, and a mostly likeable cast. poor ellen page really gives it her all too - she cries real tears, has semi-plausible heart-to-hearts with the also-wasted marcia gay harden, and even appears to be doing her own stunts. there's a great movie yet to be made about women's roller derby leagues for sure. but this one feels like "teen wolf" minus the kitsch.

a very cool & funny movie - i love movies about rebellious girls from a small town... but i really missed Devo's Whip It!

A very cool movie which doesn't make all the obvious choices but still hews close enough to cliche to stay in or near most people's comfort zones. I'd expect the most common reaction to be "I liked it. It was a little odd." Drew Barrymore is most definitely a skillful director.

that was a pretty damn fun movie. BUT, it could be a little less so blatantly INDIE. I mean come on... the cute boy is a guitar player in a band and he's a Daniel Johnston fan to boot. Ellen Page (so cute) is all alternative and wears a STRYPER t-shirt. everybody looks so cool, and is so hip... well, anyways, it is fun. also, all the girls look so sexy. Juliette Lewis was so hot she was melting.

I loved this. Rollerskating action, relationships (family, friends, lover), girl confidence, and weird Austin, TX!

I liked Whip It alias Roller Girl a lot. It was a pretty good debut direction by Drew Barrymore. Ellen Page does his signature pixie dream girl role - no surprises there. There's not a lot of surprises in the movie but it's still a solid piece of comedy which I enjoyed - much obliged.

A movie about women featuring other women talking to more women and not just about other men, which alone makes this remarkable in Hollywood.

I love it when movies have a heart. Predictability is not the point, I wasn´t bored or annoyed.

If anyone ever asks you for the definition of the word "predictable" your best bet is to show them this movie. Especially if you don't really like them.

Story of a 17-year-old roller derby girl who lives with her parents in a small Texan town; by accident she comes across a flyer for a roller derby in Austin where she goes. Akin to what Tina Fey did in "Mean Girls", although this film lacks the oomph that film had. All in all, nice scenery whilst in Austin (despite mostly being shot in Detroit) and some laughs, but not a lot more. Entertaining.

Worth it for the Shawkat-Page-Wiig trio, but Barrymore is better off acting only.

the casting is amazing, I was like wow! Alia Shawkat (from Arrested Development), Kristen Wiig (from the flight of the conchords), Zoe (from Deathproof), Jimmy Fallon! and of course cutie pie Ellen Page, this movie rocks!

Fun and more than just quirky. Ellen Page plays beautifully as a shy High Schooler who gets hooked into Roller Derby. The story may not be original with its pop culture film clichés such as the rebel daughter of a pageant-pushing mother in a small town, who finds love for the first time and loses love. Other than that the supporting cast is great and the soundtrack is hip.
