A heavy pickaxe and chains aren’t the only things weighing down a daydreaming chain-gang member. Mocking guards, cold weather, and meaningless work are all trying to break his spirit. However, with the help of a fresh snowfall the prisoner is able to make an escape. Winter’s unique look was achieved by shooting on 8mm and edited digitally. –CIFF
I saw the reference to 'Owl Creek' too, but it seemed disjointed. Then it takes a bizarre left turn at the end.
It felt a little too amateur, and did not exhibit enough of the classic [cinema] aesthetic the way it was, in my understanding, supposed to. It reminded me of "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge", actually. The daydreaming of escape, the overlord police, the black and white (although appeared tinted) photography. Not a bad effort, but could have used more work.
