The film is about a young boy named Michiel van Beusekom who tries to help the resistance during World War II by helping an English pilot stay out of German hands.
Michiel feels resentment towards his father, a mayor, seemingly only interested in maintaining the status quo between the town and the German Army. He worships his uncle Ben, an adventurer in contact with the local resistance. During the winter, Michiel’s loyalties are tested—Wikipedia.
The struggles of a family living in Nazi-occupied Holland and the sometimes good, sometimes bad choices the teenage son makes in finding his role. A side of WWII we don't often see on film.
Beautifully shot, solidly crafted, but otherwise pretty basic WWII drama about a young boy living in occupied Holland who finds a downed British fighter pilot in the woods, and risks his life to take care of him and help him escape back to England. Entertaining, but pretty typical of this genre. Offers no real surprises and falls back on some tired old tricks.
