Oliver Stone

Oliver Stone has become known as a master of controversial subjects and a legendary film maker. His films are filled with a variety of film angles and styles, he pushes his actors to give Oscar-worthy performances, and despite his failures, has always returned to success.

After dropping out of Yale University, Oliver Stone became a soldier in the Vietnam War. Serving in two different regiments (including 1rst Cavalry), he was introduced to The Doors, drugs, Jefferson Airplane, and other things that defined the sixties. This is a very bizarre film, it's as if Nicolas Cage's face has been digitally superimposed over the face of a firefighter in real 9/11 footage. What the hell was Stone thinking? If he had used unknowns, then he could have created something documentary-like that could have been a classic. Instead, its impossible to suspend disbelief because Cage's dopey mug is in the middle of almost every shot. A terrible film.

Oliver Stone has tackled many tough subjects; Vietnam, JFK assassination etc. You'd think tackling the events in NYC during 9/11 would be right in Stone's alley, but it unfortunately falls on being mediocre at best! Paul Greengrass's 'United 93' had twice the emotion and intensity in its story and direction. Stone, however, force feeds us America's sentimentality that it almost becomes slightly unbearable.
