Eh. 65% stupid and 35% funny.
''Roll, roll, roll in ze hay!''
Hilarious and crude, this homage to the Frankenstein movie is Brooks at his finest.
"What the hell are you doing in the bathroom day and night? Why don't you get out of there and give someone else a chance?"
"Are you saying that you put...an abnormal brain...into a seven-and-a-half foot long...fifty-four inch wide...GORILLA?!?!?!? IS-THAT-WHAT-YOU'RE-TELLING-ME?!?!?!?"
Amusing albeit slightly cheesy in this modern age.
This film surprised me when I recently re-watched it for the first time in years. Despite its primary comic intentions, there are scenes when parody becomes semi-serious thoughtful introspection.
I hadn't heard of this before it cropped up on late night TV, so I watched it expecting a moody hammer horror flick. What I got was a parody which ended in a knob gag. Successful night all round.
An absolutely genius film. So funny yet so true to it's origins. A true classic! :)
a more faithful and straight-faced, loving recreation of universal horror lore than one might expect. viewed immediately after revisiting the frankenstein films of the 1930s, it is downright nostalgic. frau blucher is still one of the best recurring jokes ever.
"its pronounced igor".mel brooks and gene wilders finest film.
I watch just to see the original 1930s Universal props. I'd file this under Mildly Amusing...certainly not under Hilarious.
one of my all time favorites. nothing is more funny than this!!!
This is one of my favorite Mel Brooks movies. It's a tie between this, History of the World Part 1, and Blazing Saddles....
Proves that Gene Wilder doesn't even have to speak coherent words to be a comedic genius.
@Vince Noir: That goes without saying.
"Put the candle back", one of those moments where I almost wet myself with laughter - thank god for DVDs, this part was on permanent rewind.
He would have an enormous schwanzstucker!
one of the only near perfect comedies i have ever seen. masterpiece
I thought everyone loved this movie. I'm really surprised to find people on here calling it overrated. I guess those people haven't seen the 1931 Frankenstein, of which this movie is just as much a remake as it is a sequel. Or maybe they just suck.
The only people not finding this film funny are republicans and people with a stick shoved up thier svanshtugle. Easily tops my favorite horror comedy movies along with Ghostbusters 1.
I fell asleep during this one...I'm sure it was great for its time but I pretty much saw every joke coming and didn't find it funny.
He must have a very big svanshtugle.
Always makes me laugh...no matter how many times I watch this film..
