I prefer Fulci when he's going for the atmosphere carefully building the tension like in "The Haunted", then he's the best. While this classic zombie flick doesn't give you this blood freezing feeling and might be even considered a bore by some of his fans (there are obvious reasons), it's still essential for his ardent followers and zombie lovers! They'll find couple of gore scenes very satisfying!
This film is good for zombies, but there aren't many other aesthetic principles of good, enjoyable film, except for the soundtrack theme. The soundtrack theme is awesome.
Lucio Fulci is one of the undisputed masters of Italian horror, and while he was very adept at what he did, he was often hampered by the materials he had to work with. ZOMBIE, or ZOMBI 2, as it was known in Italy, features some great moments (among them, a zombie fighting a shark and a famous eye-gouging scene), but suffers from a weak finale (watch for several reused shots scattered throughout the climax).
Much more brutal that Argento ,Fulcis work aint subtle and a bit crass but dont say its not interesting.
Great to see this again after several years, a milestone in my horror film experience, the masterful long take with a certain eyeball still manages to make me cringe. Bonafide classic.
@JF "If Dario Argento is Playboy, Lucio Fulci is Hustler", best thing I've read... in this page...
How could you not love a movie where a guy in full zombie make-up battles a REAL shark. That takes a pair of huevos
A little bit stupid, but still a tremendously fun and gory zombie flick from the master of gore himself Lucio Fulci
this gory fest has one of the best zombie make up ever created. they seem like actual walking corpses, an entertaining and weird italian b-movie, euro trash at it's best
Fulci has a tendency to draw out his movies in ways that make them more tedious than they should be, however ZOMBIE is one of the instances where the schlocky nature of the material and the infamous gore scenes make up for the pace. It's also a zombie movie that's more in the vein of I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE story-wise, rather than Romero's films.
