What if you returned home… and there was nobody there? It’s 1975, and the first Russian cosmonaut on the Moon is unable to make his way back— finally declared missing in space. But this tragedy takes on a new and eerie meaning when, in the midst of grief, a series of ghostly radio broadcasts begin to pierce the ether— in which the lost traveler claims not only to have come back to Earth, but to have found it completely empty: not a living soul remains.
And so begins the unweaving of realities_— gradually, the Cosmonaut’s hallucinatory presence and his disembodied voice disrupts and then begins to destroy the world of his loved ones…
In association with The Auteurs Garage, The Riot Cinema Collective present The Cosmonaut— a transmedia broadcast existing simultaneously in mulitple formats: as feature film, as web series, as graphic novel, music, photographs, poetry, mobile videos and more… But first things first: orientate yourself in the surreal stratosphere of a stranded man with these official intro clips—

So what’s happening here, on this channel? We’re opening up the opportunity to remix and recut the trailer. It’s part challenge, part competition (because there are prizes for the best work: see below), and it’s part experimental venture, true to the Crowd-funded, Creative Commons ethos driving this production: to hand over control of Cosmonaut elements to the audience itself, and open the work up to a multitude of remixes and creative interpretations.
Below you will find 41 scenes from the trailer: we want you to re-interpret it using these cuts, the soundfiles, and anything else (any audio, any extra footage) you want to splice in. You are encouraged to do remixes in as many formats as possible, from music videos to complete narrative cut-ups for mobile broadcast. You can use any technique, taking the trailer from simple re-working through to pure abstraction. What lies behind this story? What clues to The Cosmonaut’s reality are hidden in these cuts?

At close, the Riot Cinema Collective will judge the best work and the winner will be rewarded with a LOMO camera pack, including (amongst other things) the LOMO LCA +. Runners up will receive 10 Oktomat cameras.
The Cosmonaut feature film is a crowdfunded movie that allows YOU to become a producer: to find out more about how this works, and what its implications are for the future of film production, watch this video.

The Riot Cinema Collective will release the final film online, free of charge and in HD at the same time as the theatrical premiere, TV broadcast and DVD release. You have all the tools for creditation in this “Extras” package (ZIP, 129 MB): just remember to respect the appropriate licenses.
Meantime, you can stay updated on the progress of the movie via the K Program, ‘The Cosmonaut’ producers’ community — http://www.thecosmonaut.org/
