To the creators of Albatross Studio documentary film is the air under its wings.

The studio was established in Moscow in 2008 with its focus on the production and promotion of the independent documentary filmmaking. At first it was just a community of documentary filmmakers, who along with making films were working on introducing not only their own works, but contemporary documentary film in general, to the audiences, through various public and private resources on the Web. It was extremely important for the Russian audience, because for decades in Russia there was no distribution system developed for documentary cinema. It was almost impossible to see a documentary in theaters, and even harder to find on television.

Recently, the situation began to improve slightly, but it is still problematic to find funding for independent projects in Russia. So Albatross Studio decided combine efforts with organizations from other countries, in order to create and promote documentary films.

The inaugural international project “Unemployed”, a co-production with the Polish company Eureka Media, was completed in 2009. In 2011, Albatross plans to conclude its long-term feature-length project: a documentary Linar, filmed in Russia and Italy. Currently, the studio begun working on editing Arctic Alchemy, which was shot in the U.S. and Canada in 2010.

Recently, Albatross,and its partners, launched a new project DOKer. The project involves regular theater screenings in many regions of Russia of contemporary independent documentary films. Even at this early stage, the project DOKer proved to be very successful with audiences in Moscow and Yekaterinburg.

With this project Albatross aims to prove that documentary films can be popular among the thinking and active audience, attract Russian distributors to documentary films, invite the modern society to take a new look at the world of documentary filmmaking, and see it for what it is: a part of cinematic culture that is progressive and popular worldwide.

Our studio is comprised of young and energetic people: directors, cinematographers, sound engineers, editors. They share an exceptional quality: the desire to observe and document their country and the world in general, share their emotions, capture time, and, by doing this, change things for the better.
