Otar Iosseliani est le plus important réalisateur géorgien. Son premier long métrage Novembre a remporté le Prix FIPRESCI au Festival de Cannes en 1966. Il a entre autres réalisé Il était une fois un merle chanteur (1970), Pastorale (1975), Les Favoris de la lune (1984) et Et la lumière (1989), tous deux Prix Spécial de la Mostra de Venise, ainsi que Adieu, plancher des vaches (1999, Prix Louis-Delluc) et Lundi matin (2001, Ours d’argent). Son dernier film est Chantrapas (2010).

Otar Iosseliani is the most important Georgian filmmaker. His first film November won the FIPRESCI prize at the 1966 Cannes Film Festival. He directed There Once was a Singing Blackbird (1970), Pastorale (1975), Favorites of the Moon (1984) and And Then There was Light (1989) (both latter films won the Special Prize at Venice Mostra), Farewell, Home Sweet Home (1999, Louis-Delluc Prize) and Monday Morning (2001, Silver Bear). Chantrapas (2010) is his most recent film.
