2011 so far

This will become a Top Ten later on but as of now it is a record of the films I have seen this year. This is Not a Film and Hugo are the only masterpieces I have seen so far, that will probably change at some point. These are all the the films I have given at least a 4 so you can see a rough idea of a top ten if I had to choose now.
I feel I can’t finalize this list until I see a few more crucial films. War Horse, A Dangerous Method, Carnage, The Turin Horse, The Three Musketeers and Meek’s Cutoff are high on this list.

Sure, it’s an emotional film about filmmaking and freedom, it would be high on my list just for that alone. Where it really sets its mark however is in its analysis of the truth and reality cinema portrays. The final sequence will resonate in me for as long as I live. This is Not a Film by Mojtaba Mirtahmasb and Jafar Panahi

Took me far too long to see a Hong film. Extremely warm and fun while simultaneously revealing the selfish aspects of the ‘good guy’. The Day He Arrives by Hong Sang-soo

First Johnnie in a theater, a moment to remember. Life Without Principle by Johnnie To

Song of the year? Without by Mark Jackson
