A Favorite 33 from 2000-2009

The 2000s were the decade I fell a bit out of love with Film as I worked in and grew to love Theatre. It seemed like, with few exceptions, Film had hit a dead end and didn’t obsess me as it had for as long as I could remember (from age 4 I wanted to act in movies, from age 7 I wanted to make them). So, I didn’t see very many, and didn’t have so much interest.

Seeing everyone else’s lists made me realize that this has actually been a pretty damned good decade for film, and I wound up making up a list of every film I could remember seeing released these 10 years (228 — not all that many; less than most other members of The Auteurs, I’m sure — as I said, I’ve been more into Theatre than Film), and ranking them, and I’m a little more interested in Film again, now that it seems more alive and vibrant than I remembered it.

Why 33 here? Because #34 — SERIES 7: THE CONTENDERS — didn’t come up here at The Auteurs. I’ll have a full list up at my blog at
