A Merry, Alternative Christmas
By: Black Irish
Rather than a collection of the various ‘traditional’ Rankin-Bass, Santa Claused Christmas films and specials, I figured I’d try to create an alternate list of Christmas films. Ones that don’t get as much attention as well as ones merely taking place during or near the holiday season, as well as anything that with a ‘Wintery’ mood.

The Gold Rush (Chaplin, 1925)
The Shop Around the Corner (Lubitsch, 1940)
L’assassinat du Pere Noël (Christian-Jaque, 1941)
The Man Who Came to Dinner (Keighley, 1942)
Remember the Night (Leisen, 1942)
Christmas Holiday (Siodmak, 1944)
Meet Me in St. Louis (Minelli, 1944)
Christmas in Connecticut (Godfrey, 1945)
3 Godfathers (Ford, 1948)
The Reckless Moment (Ophüls, 1949)
The Apartment (Wilder, 1960)
Winter Light (Bergman, 1962)
The Lion in Winter (Harvey, 1968)

The Dead (Huston, 1987)
Christmas Vacation (Chechik, 1989)
