An Inspiration: Leone's Dreams

By: Maximilian Bercovicz

I can’t see America any other way than with a European’s eyes. It fascinates me and terrifies me at the same time.

Sergio Leone’s films gradually evolved from old Italian spaghetti westers (with his “Dollars” trio), to masterful storytelling of an epic western (“Once Upon a Time in the West”), and finally to his only work in the United States – his childhood fantasy land – with his epic story of crime and corruption (“Once Upon a Time in America”)

I love all of these except Once Upon a Time in the West, I don't know, I guess I found the plot draggy and boring, Once Upon a Time in America = Greatest film ever made! Thanks for the list

Watching Once Upon a Time in the West again something just clicked for me this time, it is now at number 11 on my favourite films list. Once Upon a Time in America is still at the top of the list though!

Thanks, Chris. Dimitris, I would rank it below Duck, You Sucker! as it's one of the few mediocre Leone films. Yeah, you're right, but Leone is the (uncredited) director of the first scene.. I think I'll remove it, though.

how would you rank Colossus of Rhodes? i'm pretty sure A Genius, Two Partners and a Dupe is NOT a Leone film but maybe i'm wrong ;)
