Nice to see more German films lists by German speaking people. :-) I still need to see more Saless, though. ;-)

Glad to see UNDER THE BRIDGES so high. The witty screenplay, the superb sense of timing and rhythm, the brilliant handling of light and shadow, and an intangible feeling make this film a favorite of mine. And Vajda's EL CEBO, partly Swiss, partly Spanish, partly German, a classic!

"Under the Bridges" is indeed a beautiful and timeless classic, kind of like Germany's answer to Vigo's "L'Atalante". It's especially remarkable Käutner managed to make a film of such warmth during the darkest hours of German history. I haven't yet seen "El cebo", but will check it out.

"El cebo" is the Spanish dubbed version of "Es geschah am hellichten Tag" (also 3 minutes shorter, I think). It was a Chamartin co-production directed by Spanish adopted Vajda (this time without child star Pablito Calvo) so a double version was released.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that dubbed version, I've only seen the German original. It's really a brilliant adaptation of Dürrenmatt, obviously far superior to the more recent one with Jack Nicholson.

Strictly speaking: "Es geschah am hellichten Tag" is a Swiss film, and only a German co-production. Many (german) people don't know that, except the Swiss people. :-) and i because i lead the Swiss list. A German fillm is not really wrong ;-)

In that case I should probably get rid of "Es geschah am hellichten Tag" on this list. I'll do it this way: as soon as I've watched another German film that deserves to be included Vajda's co-production needs to go.

No, no...it's OK on your list. The film is a part in the german film history and the world premiere was in Germany. I guess the film was produced for Germany. (see the actors: Heinz Rühmann, Gert Fröbe etc..). I wanted to show the different points of view, not more ;-

Co-productions are a difficult issue, if we go by story and locations then the film certainly belongs to Switzerland rather than Germany. But you're right that it frequently gets mentioned in German film history books and since part of the production money is German we may justify that in a sense it belongs to the country. So I'll leave it on there at least until some Swiss mubians begin to heavily protest against its inclusion.

Good idea. I think so. For some swiss people is a film in standard german not really a swiss film. This film is really difficult: Swiss producer, Swiss production company and the location, but is German film, too. You are right, wait for a Swiss mubians is the best idea.
