Before the Exile
By: Scout
These are the last films made by directors who, for one reason or another, put their careers on hold. Whether they left the limelight, their homeland, or the business altogether, these were the films that either provoked such fervour that a ceasefire was demanded or caused their directors to back away from the camera for many years. Some never made another movie again, others simply needed time. Regardless, they provide a fascinating snapshot of artists at a crossroad.
